Work, work, work…..

Posted by jandie on July 12th, 2006

Well I’ve been very busy at work lately.  Most of the guys/gals on our LINUX team are on vacation, so I am “IT” for most of the rest of the month.  I and this one other guy (Thank God), will be taking most of the LINUX responsibilities for the month of July.  I had a pretty tough time with work for the last couple of weeks or so.  I was actually getting stressed out about it.  Too many “fires” to fight and so little time; the lack of people doesn’t help either.  I lost about 10lbs these last couple of weeks.  Lack of sleep, missed meals, and working late hours had quite the negative impact on my life.  I’m lucky Christine is always there for me no matter what; no matter how stressful the day is, when I see her, everything just melts away.  I love her so much!!  I’ve been talking to a lot of people at work, and they gave me some good advice on how to tackle my work stress issue (I know, I know, most of you would probably say “you don’t know what stress is!” – I’m just finding this very frustrating).  So if you’re one those colleagues who gave me some advice, I thank you!  Well just thought I’d share this with everybody, I did promise to rant, bitch and complain when I started this blog.

On another note: Yesterday was Rex’ 6th B-day!  Happy B-day Rex!!

About Bridge!!!

Posted by candie on July 7th, 2006

Well, just to update everyone who is interested in what been happening in our lives, Johan just recieved a letter of acceptance as a Permanent Resident of Canada!   We are just waiting for them to call us for the approval. YAY!!!

Anyways, I have started working for the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth and am having a blast!  Although it is exhausting physically and mentally, there is no place I’d rather be then working with these kids!!! They’re all awesome!  Well , this summer I have a grade 2-3 combined class and there are two other leaders that are working with me.  It was pretty chaotic at first but I think that by getting to know the leaders better, we have a better chemistry at working together, which then makes the class better organized and fun! I have learned that being flexible, adaptable, and  just open-minded to everyone’s ideas will always work in situations you have to work in as a group.  I know it probably seems like common sense or a pretty simple concept, but after working alone in a way (like substituting) for a while, sometimes it slips your mind.  Sometimes experiencing the situations of working together as a team again, one must re-learn this concept, like I have.

Great News!!

Posted by jandie on June 29th, 2006

Okay, so I have some great news… I checked the status on my application for Permanent Resident (Immigrant Status) and it says: “We sent you a letter on … about approval in principle for you to become a Permanent Resident of Canada.” I’m taking this statement as I got approved (in principle) for a permanent resident. If that is the case, then… YAY!!!! I’ll have to wait until I receive some more details on the snail-mail from them; soon I hope.

motoQ & Work Stuff

Posted by jandie on June 29th, 2006

motoQSo, yesterday I received my motoQ. It’s pretty cool actually. It just came out in Calgary about 2 weeks ago. The University got it for me so I can have a cell phone. But of course, motoQ is more than just a cell phone, it is also a PDA. I can receive emails, text and surf the web (other than just making and receiving calls).

I’ve been pretty occupied with work lately. We just had our annual master power shutdown. We turned off everything (and I mean everything) in the server room to have a problem electric circuit breaker replaced. The shutdown went very well, but the powering up went a little hectic. Keep in mind some of these servers had not been turned off since the day it was turned on; therefore when we powered them back up, some of them had problems. All in all, everything went okay.

One of my VMware ESX blade server’s local disk has an amber light after the power shutdown. This is not good considering the week before we had the same problem on our Oracle Calendar server and when one of the tech (a certified tech from one of the biggest blade manufacturers, hint – they have a two letter acronym) pulled the supposed-to-be-hot-swapable drive, it destroyed the RAID group and we lost all the data. So these past few days, I have been busy setting up a new ESX server to move all the VMs from the ‘amber’ blade to a new one. So please pray for me that the ‘amber’ blade doesn’t fail while I’m setting the other one up.

Here comes the bride, all dressed in white!!!

Posted by candie on June 19th, 2006

So this past Saturday, June 17,2006, my best friend Kia got married!!! It was the most beautiful and extravagant wedding ever!!! It was followed by wicked beats for the reception and dance by Gerald (aka DJ pUmP)!!! Johan and I are so happy for both Kia and Ken and their two beautiful boys!

In the journey of life, there are many people you meet. Many people come and many people go. But for those you love, you must hang on to and never let go. Never give up and always keep trying. This is what I have learned from this special day! Many people say they don’t believe in soulmates and Best Friends!!I thought I didn’t either but seeing Kia and Ken together has made me think differently. You cannot choose who your soulmate is going to be and who you fall in love with. These are just the wonderous and miraculous works of God. On Saturday, I was lucky to be a part of this wonderful day as the Matron of Honor because not only did I see two people who belong together recite their love for each other, I was able to see Kia marry her best friend!!! (Pardon me, I mean best “boy” friend – otherwise she would have had to marry me!!!) hee hee….^_^ (Dammit!~~~ this should have been my speech!!!)

The wedding reminded me again of when Johan and I got married last summer. Now I truly think that we too are soulmates because I think that in life, God has a plan for each of us and therefore guides us in our paths as we meet people we are supposed to meet, fall in love with the person you’re supposed to love, and marry the one true person you are meant to marry ~ your soulmate ~ your best friend!!!

Rain, rain and more rain

Posted by jandie on June 16th, 2006

The title says it all, it has been raining here for the last 4 days. A lot of water came down from the sky. I hope it will stop raining for Ken and Kia’s wedding, which is this Saturday. It supposed to clear up today, the forecast is “Warmer with clouds and sun, 18C”. Anyways, I’m just dropping a line, haven’t blogged for a while now.

Yay, it’s Friday!!

3rd Game (vs. Calgary Shamrocks)

Posted by jandie on June 13th, 2006

The final score was 3-1, for Calgary Shamrocks unfortunately. I guess this team is a new team in Division 2 and they were pretty good. We didn’t play bad either; we just didn’t “want it” as much as they did. Our goal came in the late minutes of the second half. There were signs of a comeback but didn’t quite make it.

South Korea just won their first match in the World Cup 2006. They played Togo and the final scored was 2-1 (for Korea). They are currently in first place in their group (Group G). They will play France on June 18, 2006 (Sunday) and will be aired live by Sportsnet @ 12:30pm Mountain Time.

Convocation!

Posted by candie on June 10th, 2006

Today was convocation. YAY!!! I am now officially a certified teacher. Yes, that’s right I have my B.A (Bachelor of Arts as my first degree) and now my B.Ed (Bachelor of Education). Graduation was a nice way to conclude the path at becoming a teacher. But nevertheless, my journey as a learner will always continue as I begin my new lifelong adventures as a teacher. It was great to see familiar faces at the convocation and just to see what people were up to. Although at times, the ceremony seemed long, I guess it was well worth it in the end! Well, after convocation, Johan and I went over to my parents house and had a fantastic supper with my family. We had Korean BBQ ribs called BUL-GAL-BI that my mom made. We had that with rice, kimchi (pickled cabbage), potato salad, and fruit salad. It was so yummy~~~!!! Afterwards, Johan and I watched FEARLESS- a martial arts movie with Jet Li. It was a good movie and I would recommend people to see it! Well, overall I had a great day because I was able to share it with the people I love!

Happy Birthday hunney!

Posted by jandie on June 7th, 2006

Today is Christine’s birthday. Unfortunately I did not have a gift for her (what a husband eh..), I’ll make it up to her. We (Chris’ parents, grandparents and siblings) went to Mother Tucker’s for dinner, she wanted to get a free meal on her b-day and she got it. Dinner was okay, not really the best dinner we had but it wask okay. I think Christine liked the birthday brownie the best.

Happy Birthday hunney, I love you!
